    Direct Store Delivery (DSD)

Direct store delivery (DSD) is a service in which a supplier delivers inventory directly to a store, rather than a warehouse or distribution center.

What Is Direct Store Delivery (DSD)?

In a traditional supply chain, a supplier or manufacturer ships products to a retailer's distribution center, which then organizes inventory and fulfills customers' orders. Direct store delivery (DSD), on the other hand, is when suppliers ship items directly to a retail location, bypassing the distribution center altogether. This is a common supply chain option for retailers that sell perishable items with short shelf lives, such as grocery stores. In a direct store delivery (DSD) model, retailers can save money by skipping distribution costs, get products on shelves more quickly, and rely on suppliers to organize and sometimes even stock products on their behalf.
