    Geofencing

Geofencing is a technology that establishes a digital boundary around a specific area that triggers events when passed.

    What Is Geofencing?

Geofencing is a dynamic technology that enables brands, retailers, or consumers to set virtual boundaries. When a users crosses that boundary, the technology will trigger an action to occur. Say a consumer sets a geofencing boundary on their smartphone for a particular retail location, for example. When that shopper crosses the virtual boundary, their phone will remind them to pick up their latest order from the retailer. As an another example, a brand might use geofencing to send targeted ads to consumer segments with personalized messages when those consumers enter a geofenced area. Alternatively, a brand's mobile app could push a notification to a user when they're in a geofenced area of a brick-and-mortar location. In each of these examples, the geofencing technology mixes the physical world with virtual areas to spark engagement.
