    Recommender systems are machine learning (ML) technologies that use a customer's buying behavior to serve up personalized product recommendations.

    What Are Recommender Systems?

    Many brands, retailers, and ecommerce platforms — such as Amazon — use recommender systems to automate the product recommendation process. These systems integrate into ecommerce sites and use machine learning (ML) algorithms to analyze customers' behavior, including their purchase history, browsing history, and interests. Then, recommender systems serve up personalized product recommendations that connect with those interests. Take Spotify as an example. The music platform uses a listener's previous song choices to produce custom playlists with similar music. In this way, recommender systems give brands two primary benefits: They automate the recommendation process to save the brand considerable time and resources, and they connect directly with shoppers' interests to drive further customer engagement.
