Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) Analysis

A strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis is an evaluative technique that helps brands and individuals identify internal and external elements that impact the business.

What Is a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) Analysis?

Brands use strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analyses to evaluate critical factors that impact the business. Individuals can also perform a SWOT analysis to determine their personal performance and areas in need of improvement or protection.

The strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT)/SWOT analysis consists of four elements:

    • Strengths: What does the business excel at? What differentiates the brand from its competitors? What level of customer loyalty have they built, and how?
    • Weaknesses: What roadblocks are getting in the business’ way? What metrics show stagnant or declining performance?
    • Opportunities: What kind of market or customer conditions could give the business an advantage? What gaps exist in the market that the business could fill?
    • Threats: What cultural, economic, or market conditions could impact the business negatively? How can the business anticipate and protect itself from threats?

By analyzing these questions, the brand can create strategies for improvement.
